He wanted to address why his thumb had been twitching in TV interviews that he took part in around that time and he figured that people might be curious about what was going on with him health-wise.
But before he was given his official diagnosis, a much stranger symptom initially roused his suspicions that something was wrong. Who would have known that moving around while you're dreaming might be a symptom of such a debilitating disease?
In this video, we're going to be focusing on Alan Alda's battle with Parkinson's disease. But we're also going to take a little trip back in time to see how his childhood experiences left a lasting impact on him that he continued to tap into for insight for decades to come.
Alan Alda has had more struggle and adversity in his life than most people have to contend with but he isn't ashamed of that fact. He has taken all of his life's experiences – even the troubling ones – and viewed them as a teacher of sorts to guide him through his later struggles. If he had never endured the pain and hardship that he did when he was a child, he wouldn't likely be approaching this latest hurdle with such a positive and proactive attitude.
