Families, childcare centres to benefit from waived gap-fees: Alan Tudge

Education Minister Alan Tudge says the federal government’s scheme to waives childcare fees for families in lockdown is good news for parents as well as childcare centres.

Under the proposal, parents will not be charged for keeping their children at home for the duration of COVID-19 lockdowns while also retaining their enrolment.

“That means it's good for the parent because they’ve got some more cash in their pocket but it is also good for that childcare centre because it keeps them afloat, it keeps them viable and it can keep their employees going as well,” Mr Tudge told Sky News Australia.

“Certainly, from a family’s perspective in Sydney today, if you’ve got kids in childcare but you’re keeping your kid at home, you won’t have to pay those fees which ordinarily would have to pay and for the average family, that’s worth $150 a week.”
