06/8: Heavy rains caused landslides in China, killing 16 people | China flood | Three Gorges Dam

Landslides buried terrible in China on August 5.

China Central Television reported that a landslide happened yesterday, August 5, affecting 15 households and burying 16 people in China's Hubei province.
The cause of the landslide was due to prolonged flooding, causing the soil here to be soaked with enough water, so it fell down. In addition, the influence of typhoon No. 4 continues to cause heavy rain in many provinces of China.

The landslide took place in the early hours of the morning in Hoang Mai district in Huanggang city of Hubei province. Huanggang Fire Department dispatched 10 vehicles and 55 staff to the scene.

The rescue team is currently trying to rescue the trapped people. Leaders of Hoang Mai district and Hoang Cuong city also arrived at the scene. More than 40 villagers in the same area were moved to safety after the landslide.

Heavy rains are leading to floods and landslides in many provinces in southern China. From 0am to 6am on August 5, Hoang Mai district received more than 200mm of rain.

Meanwhile, six other people were also trapped by landslides in Songtao county in southwestern China's Guizhou province.

From August 4 to 5, Mr. Wang Yong, State Councilor and Commander-in-Chief of China's Flood and Drought Prevention Command, paid a visit to several cities in Jiangxi province, the southern region of China. East China to observe flood control and rescue work.

According to Xinhua, in the past few days, the Yangtze River basin has experienced continuous heavy rain, the water level in many rivers and lakes has exceeded the warning level and the flood prevention situation is increasingly difficult. On the morning of August 5, the China Central Meteorological Station continued to issue orange heavy rain warnings (on a 4-color scale from low to high: blue, yellow, orange, red).

The provinces of Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Fujian will receive heavy rain, of which 250-260mm in some places.

From August 1 to August 5, total rainfall in many areas of Hubei, Anhui, Zhejiang and Chongqing cities reached their highest levels in 50 years. Rainfall in some places this year is two to three times higher than usual.
The China Meteorological and Hydrological Administration predicts heavy rain will continue for the next week, and people here must continue to raise their vigilance against floods to promptly evacuate.
