Meghalaya: Mawlai leaders serve 7-day deadline to govt to suspend top police officials

Leaders under the "voice of the people of Mawlai" whcih includes the Headmen, representatives and NGOs on Wednesday 18 August had a meeting with the Chief Minister and the government officials to discus on the law and order situation in the state. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, the leaders said that the meeting was unsatisfactory though many of their concerns have been taken into consideration.

Their demand regarding the suspension of the top police officials heading the operation on the 13 of August which led to the death of lt Cherish S. Thangkhiew remains unanswered where the Chief Minister said it will take 3 months for the Judicial Inquiry to come out with reports after which necessary action can be taken accordingly.

The peole have given the government an ultimatum of 7 days to take action against the officers involved without which they will not take part on the peace committee constituted by the chief miister to monitor the law and order in the state.
