According to a tweet from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the company is transitioning its standard range vehicle batteries from lithium-ion to iron cathode lithium-ion polymer (li-ion LFP). Musk, in a tweet, highlighted nickel issues as well as the difficulties in scaling up lithium iron manufacturing as the primary reasons for the massive shift away from nickel-based batteries to lithium-ion batteries, or LFP’s for short.
