DAY 2 | Plenary 2 Constitutionalism, Customary Law and Land: Thuto Thipe & Amanda Gouws

Anti-democratic forces are rising everywhere, in South Africa and across the African continent and the rest of the globe. Marking the 10th anniversary of CANRAD, ‘The State We’re In – Democracy’s Fractures, Fixes and Futures’ international interdisciplinary conference (7-10 September 2021, Nelson Mandela University, South Africa) presents a platform for renewed thinking to deepen democracy and address contradictions and limitations. Being in a country that has only recently transitioned to democracy, after centuries of anti-colonial and anti-apartheid struggles, it is imperative to strengthen democracy and find ways to make democracy live up to its promise of inclusion, equality, freedom, accountability and, above all, human dignity. #StateWereInConference #Democracy
