Leading Protests, Defying Taliban & Their Weapons: What's Pushing Afghan Women To Do The Unthinkable

Afghan women protesting on the streets was unthinkable during the Taliban's last stint in power in late 1990s. In 2021, women in Afghanistan have chosen not to stay home while a battle rages outside. Though clad in veil, women are taking to the streets, defying Taliban and their weapons. Hundreds of people, mostly women gathered outside the Pakistani embassy in Kabul.

Like never before, women have been seen arguing with Taliban fighters even when they are being assaulted. Protests are being held despite Taliban spokesperson’s warning against any challenge to their rule.
