Tropical Storm Larry forms in Atlantic, likely to become hurricane | Sept. 1 5 am update

Tropical Depression Twelve strengthened overnight into Tropical Storm Larry, according to the NHC.



According to the National Hurricane Center, Larry formed in the eastern tropical Atlantic and is about 175 miles south of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands. It currently has 45 mph winds and is moving at about 20 mph.



Larry is expected to move toward the west over the next few days, followed by a turn to the northwest over the weekend.



The storm is expected to continue strengthening over the next few days and Larry is forecast to become a hurricane by late Thursday or Friday, the NHC said.
