Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales, expects over 100,000 people to benefit from the Community Water Improvement Programme with little cost to the taxpayer.
Speaking at the Commissioning of the Lower Mendez Booster Station in Champ Fleurs, he maintains that fixing the water problem in this country does not require a multi-million dollar solution.
The Minister points out that over 35,000 people have already benefitted from two projects which cost Government less than $4 million, and he says other areas will start to notice an improvement in their taps soon.
Member of Parliament for St. Joseph, Terrence Deyalsingh, says while many will experience an improvement in their water supply, at least 25 households will receive a pipe borne water supply for the first time.
The Mendez Booster Station project cost $2.4 million, and included the installation of new pipelines and the construction of the booster station.
