Support for net zero ‘plummets quite dramatically’ when a cost is nominated

The support for a net zero emissions reduction target “plummets quite dramatically” when a cost is nominated, says Sky News host Rita Panahi.

It comes after Prime Minister Scott Morrison presented polling to Cabinet which showed 80 per cent support for a net zero by 2050 target.

“If you dig a little bit deeper, when you nominate a cost for that zero emissions, if you nominate a cost of even just $500 per annum, the support plummets quite dramatically,” Ms Panahi said.

“So it’s always wise to have a bit of a deeper look at those figures because remember … it was the last federal election that was the climate change election.

“We took this to the Australian people and the Australian people sided with the centre-right Coalition.

"And now the centre-right Coalition is embracing the policies of its opposition that lost the unlosable election.”
