Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of the capital, Rabat, on Sunday, to rally against the mandatory COVID-19 passport for travel, work and access to public places.
Protesters were seen chanting "People want the passport to be scrapped" and holding signs reading "No to vaccination passport" and “No to mandatory vaccination”
On October 21, the vaccination pass became obligatory for entering workplaces, indoor public spaces, restaurants, and for undertaking domestic and international air travel.
Protesters were seen trying to breach a police cordon, with officers responding by attempting to disperse the demonstrators.
The inoculation rate in the Kingdom has exceeded 58 percent of the population, and so far more than 23 million have been inoculated with at least the first dose, while more than 21 million, out of a total of 36 million people, have received a second dose. Morocco is aiming to vaccinate 80 percent of its population.
Last week, authorities in Morocco extended the health state of emergency (SoE) through to November 30 amid efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.
